▣ Handling Torment

Have you ever been so tormented with rage and anger that no one could calm you down? Jesus stands by to free us from our torment no matter what it may be.
“. . . What do You want from me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that You won’t torture me!” Mark 5:7. (NIV)

The above Scripture speaks of a man who lived in the tombs and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. The man tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. He was in torment night and day.

One day the man saw Jesus from a distance. He ran and fell on his knees in front of Jesus. The man shouted at the top of his voice, “What do You want from me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!” Jesus said to him, “Come out of this man, you evil spirit!” Then Jesus healed the man of his torment. The man who had once been a subject of scorn and contempt now sat with Jesus (Mark 5:1-15).

Have you ever been so tormented with rage and anger that no one could calm you down? You felt you had to have to give a certain person a piece of your mind? Like the man with the evil spirits, have you ever been so filled with negative influences that you could not turn your torment over to Jesus to solve?

Jesus stands by to free us from our torment no matter what it may be. Jesus is our Prince of peace. He said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you” (John 14:27). The next time we are in a position to give someone a piece of our mind, let us dwell on Jesus and His peace. Amen.

Heavenly Father:

I praise You! I exalt You! Thank you for giving me peace in my time of torment. Help me to always seek You as my source of peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
