Delivered By God

"He delivered me because He delighted in me." Ps 18:19

A twelve year old inner city boy in a fit of blind anger, pulled out a camping knife and thrust the knife into his friend’s stomach. The knife hit the metal portion of the youngster’s belt buckle and the blade broke off and fell to the ground. Horrified by his actions, the boy ran home and locked himself into the bathroom. For several hours he prayed and communed with God. When he came out of the bathroom, the boy was a changed young man and had a new plan for the direction of his life.

That inner city boy was Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Ben Carson turned his life around that day. He later entertained offers of scholarships from Harvard and Yale Universities. He is now the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Carson is one of the most celebrated neurosurgeons in the world and people come from all over the world to be under his care.

God delighted in Dr. Ben Carson and delivered him from the evil one. God had great plans for Dr. Carson. God gave Dr. Carson a chance to rise from a hot-tempered inner city youth, to the godly man that he is today. God dispatched His angels to watch over Dr. Carson.

I can imagine that God’s angels were watching over Dr. Carson the day he thrust that knife into the youth’s stomach. The angels knew that God had a plan for Dr. Carson. I can also imagine that the angels remembered their assignment—that sometimes they would have to “bear Ben Carson up in their hands, lest he dash his foot against a stone” (Ps 91:11). The angels saw the many people that would be left hopeless without Dr. Carson’s skilled surgeon’s hands and his inspiring ways. The angels swooped down and broke off the blade of the knife and threw it to the ground! The angels under God’s orders, stopped Dr. Ben Carson from destroying God’s Plan for his life. God delighted in Dr. Ben Carson and He delivered him. Praise the Lord!

Heavenly Father:

Help me to be worthy of Your delight. Give me the wisdom to understand Your plan for my life. Please deliver me from the evil one and anything else that would hinder Your plan for me. Father, keep me in Your care that I might walk worthy before You. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
