When you have guests in your home, what type of host are you? Do you see your guests as an inconvenience? Are you counting the hours and minutes until their departure? Or do you make efforts to have your guests as comfortable as possible. Are you a gracious host?
A Gracious Host
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Psalm 23:5. (NKJV)
When you have guests in your home, what type of host are you? Do you see your guests as an inconvenience? Are you counting the hours and minutes until their departure? Or do you make efforts to have your guests as comfortable as possible. Are you a gracious host?
In Psalm 23:5, David sees himself not just as a temporary passing-through house guest of the Lord, but one who is the recipient of God’s covenant mercy forever. The house of the Lord is where God is. Hosea 2:19 says, “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy.” As God’s guest, we receive His goodness and mercy forever.
We can’t top God as gracious hosts, but we can show graciousness to others. The Bible says, “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord . . . he is gracious, full of compassion, and righteous.
A good man deals graciously. . . (Psalm 112:1-5). What
a joy it is to know that God is our gracious host. God shows more loving concern for our needs than any earthly host could ever do. As God’s guest, we can enjoy all that we need. What a banquet feast God sets for us! What
a gracious host! Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father:
I praise You today! Thank You for all that You have provided for me. Help me to follow Your example as a gracious host. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
